PROMPTS: A digital health platform connecting mothers with lifesaving advice
Almost a third of maternal deaths are cause by delays in care-seeking. We operate a digital health platform that connects mothers with lifesaving advice and referral to care. This service is completely free to the user. We keep costs low by using tools such as an AI-based triage system to help answer mothers’ questions. By using AI and Helpdesk agents, we are are able to meet mothers’ needs quickly and effectively, resulting in more successful maternal outcomes, and safe mothers and babies.

PROMPTS combines carefully designed “nudge” messages, a clinical helpdesk service, and collects data from mothers on the quality of care they received within 930+ public facilities across 20 counties in Kenya. Here’s how it works.

For less than 1 USD per mum, PROMPTS has driven key behavior changes like improved breastfeeding, full course of prenatal visits, exclusive breastfeeding, and postpartum family planning, and infant vaccination. It has also shown to improve referral and triage of urgent cases, connecting mothers and their babies facing life-threatening clinical conditions to the closest, well-equipped facility.
